Nevada Shakespeare Company was founded on April 23, 1999 (William Shakespeare’s 435th birthday). We have entertained, engaged and educated northern Nevada patrons with 20 main stage productions of Shakespeare: Hamlet (1999, 2005), Macbeth (2000, 2009), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2000, 2008), Twelfth Night (2001), Richard III (2001, 2005), Romeo and Juliet (2001, 2007), Tempest (2002, 2010), King Lear (2003, 2011), Julius Caesar (2004), As You Like It, (2006), Much Ado About Nothing (2007, 2009).
We have fostered the development of new theatrical work: Amigas, by Emma Sepulveda and Marjorie Agosin (2002), The Table, by Mark Curtis (2003), The Acolyte, by Maggy Anthony (2004), A Single Woman, by Jeanmarie Simpson (2004 – 2006), Romeo and Juliet-ISH by Joe Atack and Cameron Crain (2008), The Tempest–Kinda! (2009), Voices In the Life, created by Norman Stephens and Cameron Crain (in development for 2012).
We have also delved into the “interactive” theatre experience with “To Russia: Love, Chekov” (2011) directed by Micha Marie Hoffman. This included 2 One Act Plays, vodka tasting and music by The Sierra Nevada Balalaika Society!
Since 2009, we have produced two versions of Charles Dicken’s immortal tale, A Christmas Carol, with a third coming just in time for the 2012 Holiday Season.
